# Teaching

I enjoy teaching and strive to do so well. I'm especially interested in the development of data science and machine learning curriculum in mathematics courses. At Harvey Mudd, I am on the Math 62 (Probability and Statistics) teaching team and am conducting an assessment of this course beginning Spring 2022. I am also developing a topics course titled "Mathematical Data Science and Topic Modeling" which will focus on the use of matrix and tensor decomposition for topic modeling and other tasks, and will lead students through literature review, computational and theoretical reflections, and a final project capstone. I am a member of the Project NExT Gold '21 cohort.

Prior to joining HMC, I worked at UCLA, where I taught Machine Learning, Probability and Statistics, and Introduction to Probability. I taught Machine Learning five times while at UCLA, and had students complete a group final project capstone -- many of these projects were exceptional and lead to independent student research. See my People page for examples of students who continued independent research with me after this course.

In the past, I have helped organize the UC Davis Mathematics graduate student outreach program, Explore Math, and have spoken many times in the UC Davis Math Circle. I have acted as teaching assistant and advisor to UC Davis groups for minority and underrepresented students in the STEM fields, MURPPS and CALESS. In Summer 2015, I had the opportunity to act as teaching assistant for the Berlin Mathematical School Summer School on "Convex Geometry - Discrete and Computational" in lectures on "Convex Geometry Arising in Optimization".

During 2015-2016, I helped to lead the UC Davis "MAT 17 Improvement Project (MIP)" in which we improved the current Calculus for Biosciences course to better educate students in mathematical modeling and applications. We incorporated a programming component in R and RStudio for this course. I acted as lead teaching assistant and GSR for this program and developed course material, interacted with learning assistants (advanced undergraduates who assist in discussion sections) and other teaching assistants, as well as worked directly with students.

Finally, I consider teaching a chance to learn as well as to educate about my passions, mathematics and computer science. I welcome anyone with interesting questions or ideas to contact me - I look forward to interacting with anyone who finds these topics interesting.
